Restaurant Roundup: Pasta pop-up, grilled cheese, gift card deals, zombie drink

A new pop-up restaurant is taking over the menu at Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen this month. Circo Di Pasta will take over the menu from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 18, similar to the Taqueria El Circo events the restaurant has been hosting monthly. Here’s the menu from chef Jordan Taylor: bouillabaisse with shrimp, clams, mussels and Israeli couscous; cauliflower Bolognese with basil, bread crumbs and manchego; short-rib ragout with ricotta, pappardelle and herbs; and carbonara with pancetta, pecorino, basil, black pepper and bucatini.

Cinnabons at your door?! Pizza Hut has added the mini version of the decadent cinnamon roll to its menu. An order of 10 minis is $6, and extra cream cheese frosting is 75 cents. You also can order Cinnabons for carryout from any location or eat them in the only dine-in site on West 12th Street.

Daily soups and sandwiches have returned to Cheese World with the chillier weather. The cheese shop at 69th and Western offers five varieties of grilled cheese sandwiches – some with meat and other fillings — and two soup choices from 11 a.m. to 2:30 or 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Sioux Valley Grille in Canton has expanded its hours. The restaurant is open between lunch and dinner, serving a limited menu from 2 to 5 p.m. Among the offerings: chicken quesadilla, patty melt and hamburgers. It’s closed Monday and Tuesday, and is open for brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 1: 30 p.m. Sunday.

 

Gnosh, which opened about six weeks ago, has added another day for food. The restaurant cooking out of the downtown Club David kitchen is open now on Tuesdays. Hours are 4:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Coffea Roasterie is having an open house tonight to celebrate moving its roaster back to the Louise Avenue location. The cafe is serving free coffee from 6 to 9 p.m,. and the Joel Shotwell Trio will play from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Granite City Food & Brewery is throwing an Oktoberfest party Saturday. Festivities begin at noon with games and activities for kids and adults. A German-style band will perform at 4:30 p.m. One person will win free beer for a year. The restaurant already released its marzen Oktoberfest brew and it offers several seasonal features: a Bavarian pretzel, German wurst platter, spatzle mac and cheese, Bavarian Reuben, chicken schnitzel sandwich, jagerschnitzel or caramel apple bread pudding.

 

Villa Italian Kitchen is celebrating National Pizza Month by giving away free slices on Oct. 17. Provide an email address at freesliceday.com and get a coupon for a slice of cheese pizza at The Empire Mall location.

The annual gift card sale at Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe is Friday and Saturday. For each $20 gift card purchased, customers will receive a coupon for a free entree. Sales are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Here’s another gift card deal: Spezia is selling them this month at a 20 percent discount as a customer appreciation promotion.

The best part of this cocktail – not counting the $1 price – has to be the gummy brain garnish. Applebee’s #NeighborhoodDrink for October is the Dollar Zombie. It’s a mixture of rum, pineapple, passion fruit, cherry and lime.
