Restaurant Roundup: PAve’s new menu, Wagyu burgers, cheap eats

PAve is embracing the change in seasons and has reworked its menu, keeping only a few dishes. “We want to get into the habit of changing it up twice a year,” general manager John Geiken said. “We’ve found some unique flavors and bright colors for that summer feel.” Both he and bar manager Shantel Anderson raved about the same new item. “I’m just blown away by the chicken salad sandwich,” Geiken said. “It’s not like any that I’ve had before.” Anderson said it’s her favorite. The chicken is seasoned with lemon and thyme, and it’s served on Breadsmith’s honey oat bread with greens, red peppers and pesto aioli.

Other new sandwiches include a Cubano and bahn mi. PAve has added wraps with chicken, and there are two new paninis, including a roasted veggie. New burgers include the Big Kahuna with caramelized pineapple, onion bacon jam and black garlic aioli, and one that’s stuffed with mac and cheese, bacon and cheddar. Two of the new entrees are gluten-free: the pork carnitas tacos and the chicken satay lettuce wraps. The menu is served from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Check out the menu at pavebar.com.

Since Parlour Ice Cream House opened in May in the new Washington Square downtown, it has been rotating through flavors of ice cream, gelato and sorbet, offering 18 choices every day. A new variety being introduced Friday sounds intriguing. Summer Nights is described as Bonfire Smoke gelato with chocolate flakes and vanilla charcoal.

Fans of Lam’s Vietnamese Restaurant might want to order their favorite dish in the next few days. The restaurant on East Rice Street will be closed July 3-19 while the family takes a three-week vacation to the West Coast to visit relatives and stock up on spices, according to a post on the business’ Facebook page.

If you haven’t had a chance to try Wagyu beef, here’s a reasonably priced opportunity. For a limited time, Sickies Garage is featuring half-pound burgers made from the highly prized meat that’s known for its marbling of fat, which leads to lots of flavor. Choose from the Exotic Italian with fresh mozzarella, basic pesto and roma tomatoes; the Fatboy with bacon and bacon jam; the Superbike with boursin cheese and diced mushroom spreads; the Smoke Shack or The Classic. The $15 burgers come with sea salt and black pepper fries.

Catch a great deal through Saturday at all of the Applebee’s in South Dakota. The restaurants are offering $1 Long Islands and 50-cent Brew Pub Pretzels, which come in orders of four.

Here’s a cheap way to try two new offerings in the Jones421 marketplace downtown. Boki European Street Food is offering a free gelato from its sister store, Boki Gelato, with the purchase of a gyro plate. The offer is good through Saturday.

Tile workers are scrambling to complete the new flooring at All Day Cafe, so the reopening won’t happen as planned on Friday. According to a Facebook post, the Western Mall restaurant hopes to reopen Saturday. All Day Cafe closed on Monday, so crews could remove the coffee area to open up the dining room for more seating.
