Restaurant Roundup: Season’s first taco ride, bigger burgers, coffee flights

Sioux Falls Taco Ride is excited to offer its first outing for the season on Cinco de Mayo. The ride will start at 6 p.m. May 5 from the back patio area at Remedy Brewing Co. “We’ll meander around the bike path and some city streets, then end up right back where we started for some tacos.” The other dates this year are July 7 and Sept. 15. Salas Salsas is still working to get its new food truck ready, but it’s having a torta pop-up shop for the open house this weekend at Oakridge Nursery & Landscaping in Brandon. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Choose from al pastor, chicken in guajillo salsa or vegan house-marinated soy chorizo. The tortas will be served on artisan sourdough bolillo.

Taco John’s is celebrating Cinco de Mayo with Cinco Week. Get five softshell tacos for $5.55 Sunday through Thursday. To get the deal, customers must be enrolled in the loyalty program through the app.

Prairie C Dessert Bar has a special menu for Mother’s Day, and it’s taking orders until noon Tuesday. The “MOM” honey-cream cookie cake with white chocolate filling decorated with fruit, chocolate and Bella Rosa flowers. The Hydrangea Bouquet features the dessert bar’s classic vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting and comes in large or small sizes. There also are chocolate-covered Oreos that look like daisies, a sugar cookie bouquet and Mother’s Day “hat” cookies that are filled with candy. Call the kitchen at 605-777-3445 to place an order.

Squealer’s Smoke Shack is open again on Mondays, and there are new menu items. For appetizers, there’s a spinach and artichoke dip served with chips and pita slices, Boom Boom Shrimp and quesadillas with a choice of meat. Entrée choices include the Quesadilla Bang Salad, a B.B.L.T. with brisket, a loaded grilled cheese with brisket, a breaded chicken sandwich and a shrimp po’ boy. New flatbreads include alfredo chicken and bacon cheeseburger.

Crack’d Pot Restaurant & Bakery has beefed up its burgers. The restaurant on North Minnesota Avenue has increased the patty size from one-third pound to one-half pound. They’re available daily, but Tuesday is buy one, get one free from 5 p.m. to close.

Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen is putting on a special bottomless brunch Saturday. The Vibes N’ Brunch buffet includes a meat-carving station and a brunch bar with breakfast foods and Southern classics such as chicken and waffles, scrambled eggs and pancakes. There also will be a dessert bar with Swamp Daddy’s flapjack cake as the centerpiece. Tickets, which are $30, include bottomless glasses of prosecco, and diners can pay extra for bottomless mimosas. Glacial Lakes has added a pina colada flight to its Sunday-only flight offerings, which include bloody marys and mimosas. Offerings include toasted banana, raspberry, mango and blueberry hibiscus. Sunday hours are noon to 8 p.m.

Looking for a nonalcoholic flight? Zooks Coffee Bar in Tea has launched one with 8-ounce coffee and Buzzed drinks. Pick four hot or iced drinks – no blended offerings – for $20. They’ve been so popular that customers need to make reservations.

Panera Bread has expanded its coffee subscription program to include all beverages in its lineup. The new Unlimited Sip Club will cost $11 a month instead of $9. Members get coffee, hot tea, iced green tea, soft drinks, juices, lemonades and other drinks like the new caffeinated Lemonade Chargers, which come in different flavors. The only limit is one drink every two hours. Sign up by May 6, and get the subscription for free through the Fourth of July.

Lasagna Fest has started at Fazoli’s with two special offerings. The Cheesy Double-Stack Lasagna has 18 layers and weighs in at 1.3 pounds. Lasagna noodles are layered with ricotta, mozzarella and parmesan cheeses, meat sauce and alfredo sauce. Triple Meat Lasagna has meat sauce, sliced Italian sausage and bacon. They’re on the menu through June 26.

Because who knows when it will warm up, Great Shots is throwing its Beaches & Bays party Friday night to provide an escape. The fun starts at 9 p.m. Rent a heated bay to hit a few golf balls or get a “beach access” pass. Drink specialty summer cocktails, dance to music from DJ Sieff Style, show off your hula hoop and limbo skills, play Twister and other games, and win raffle prizes. Get details here.

Oh My Cupcakes is treating teachers and child care workers to free cupcakes as part of Teachers Appreciation Week. Stop by the East 10th Street location May 2-7 to get a voucher for a free cupcake on a future visit.

Changes in hours, service

Humble Hill Winery is reopening for the season. The tasting room will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The small farm winery is at 25219 485th Ave., which is along Highway 11 just north of Garretson.

Fred’s Franks starts its season next week. The hot dog cart will be back in the parking lot outside Kingbird Coffee Shop in Brandon, beginning Tuesday. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. Find updates on Fred’s Franks’ Facebook page. 

The Dive in The Gaslight Lounge has expanded its hours, adding lunch Tuesday through Thursday. New hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Dive took over the West 12th Street bar’s kitchen earlier this year.
