Restaurant Roundup: Summer flavors, pizza maker’s quesadillas

July 5, 2018

Cherry Rock Farms opened its seasonal market today. The produce farm on Highway 11 south of Brandon has  green beans, carrots, beets, cucumbers, zucchini, turnips, onions, cabbage and cherry tomatoes. There’s also basil, arugula and microgreens from Caselli’s Market Garden and products from the Goosemobile, SplitRock Honey Co, Fruit of the Coop, Valley Preserves and JarCakes. Hours are 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends.

Chilled soups have arrived for the summer at Zoup. Simply Gazpacho features an assortment of fresh vegetables in a spicy tomato broth with cilantro, while the new Avozpacho includes fresh vegetables served in avocado puree with roasted jalapenos. Both are topped off with sour cream and scallions. The two soups, available through Aug. 19, will join 10 others that rotate daily at the restaurant on 41st Street east of Kiwanis Avenue. Zoup also brought back the MTB, or mozzarella, tomato and basil, sandwich for the season.

Breadsmith has set an opening date for its fourth store in Sioux Falls. The shop at 1212 E. 57th St. will open July 16. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. It will carry 15 varieties of bread, muffins, cookies, scones, jam, peanut butter, soup mixes and oils. The original location at 33rd and Spring does all the baking. In addition, the semiannual bread sale is on through July 31. Get a punch card good for five loaves for $15.

Toppers Pizza has added quesadillas to its menu. The restaurant offers three varieties: three cheese, chipotle chicken and buffalo chicken.

If you’re a fan of mini desserts, Half Baked is now serving mini cupcakes every day. Customers should be able to find a few of the daily selections in the smaller size at the downtown bakery on Phillips Avenue. They’re selling for $1.25.

These smiles say it all. Stensland Family Farms had a successful turnout for its first I Pledge for Ice Cream day. Kids 12 and younger who recite the Pledge of Allegiance can get a free dish of soft-serve ice cream on Mondays in July. The offer runs from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the store, 3101 W. 41st St.
