Rowing-based fitness business to open in Sioux Falls

Sept. 23, 2019

Row House, a growing fitness concept that focuses on rowing, is coming to Sioux Falls.

It’s being franchised by Michael and Tricia Safranski, who brought Club Pilates to Sioux Falls two years ago.

“We’re super happy we did it,” Michael Safranski said. “It’s met the goals we’ve had, and we’ve been able to engage with southern Sioux Falls and Harrisburg and Tea and the surrounding community. We’re really excited about being a little more a part of the business community.”

Row House is owned and managed by the same company as Club Pilates. The concept is a boutique indoor rowing studio that focuses on group camaraderie and drive fostered by the sport of rowing.

“What’s really cool about Row House is that it’s one of the only fitness programs that has people exercising together as opposed to doing their own thing,” Safranski said. “It’s a great concept where the tagline is ‘We pull together,’ and we take that very seriously.”

The new studio will be close to their existing business at The Bridges at 57th lifestyle center. Row House is leasing a space two doors down from Flyboy Donuts.

“It’s got a cool brand,” Safranski said. “It’s striking how the lobby will be laid out, and when you go back in the fitness area, it’s dark with a cool light and sound system.”

The business offers a variety of classes. In groups of up to 25 plus a coach, participants row on the same stroke, as a unit, but can row at their own intensity. Safranski said it’s a low-impact, high-energy workout that engages 85 percent of the body’s muscles with a low risk of injury, maximizing calorie burn, activating the core and ultimately improving posture.

“The machines, for sure, are effort-based, so the more you put in, the more you get out of it,” he said. “You’ll be tired when you walk out, and there will be noticeable results very quickly, especially if you make the commitment to come two or three times a week.”

Row House was founded in 2014 in New York City and has 30 locations open nationwide plus hundreds more in development.

Construction on the 2,300-square-foot space has started, and the hope is to be open before the end of the year. Row House anticipates hiring up to a dozen people and is taking applications at [email protected].
