Sanford Health is exploring an expansion that would take it into the Chicago area.

CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft referenced a board vote Tuesday when announcing the newly approved affiliation agreement with The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society.

The board for the Chicago-area organization, which has not been named, and Sanford’s board have given approval to move forward with discussions.

“Sanford Health continues to explore growth opportunities locally, regionally and nationally,” the health system said in a statement Thursday.
