Schlotzsky’s opens this week as brand plans expansion to ‘street food’

By Jodi Schwan

Schlotzsky’s returns to Sioux Falls this week as the brand plans an evolution into Austin, Texas-style street food.

The sandwich chain is pairing with Cinnabon to open a Sioux Falls store on 41st Street east of Western Avenue.

It opens at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 25.

The first 100 guests to buy a six-pack of Cinnabon classic rolls will receive a redemption card good for one free sandwich per week for a year.

Schlotzsky’s as a brand will evolve in the coming years, said restaurant representatives at RECON, the international retail real estate convention in Las Vegas organized by the International Council of Shopping Centers.

It’s becoming Schlotzsky’s Austin Eatery, and will add a wide variety of street food-style menu items including tacos, sliders and mac-and-cheese dishes along with beer and wine.

The plan is to start converting the restaurants over the next couple years.
