SD Biotech announces Breakthrough Summit & Annual Banquet

Get caught up and get ahead of what’s coming in this exciting industry at Breakthrough, the annual summit and banquet presented by South Dakota Biotech.
The state’s industry affiliate of BIO, the biotech industry’s international trade organization, South Dakota Biotech has put together an afternoon and evening filled with education, networking and partnerships.
The event will be June 15 beginning at 1 p.m. at the Washington Pavilion. Highlights include:
- A state-of-the-industry report with a detailed analysis of the biotech footprint in South Dakota and opportunities to expand it.
- A panel of industry leaders who are or will be entering clinical trials, detailing their promising innovations.
- A slate of experts providing a national industry perspective and policy analysis.
“We think Breakthrough will be our most valuable event yet,” said Joni Johnson, executive director of South Dakota Biotech.
“Not only is there an incredible amount of knowledge to share this year, but we’ve brought together an outstanding group of leaders to communicate what you need to know about this critical industry.”
Additionally, attendees can visit a vendor fair and student poster session.
The evening reception and banquet will include keynote speaker Kipp Snider, vice president of state advocacy for PhRMA, as well as industry awards.
In addition, Breakthrough and South Dakota Biotech are partnering with two industry events occurring in Sioux Falls at the same time. A proposal preparation workshop from Small Business Innovation Research and a national conference for Graduate Women in Science are in town and present a unique opportunity to bring the biotech community together, Johnson said.
“By including attendees from these events, we expect a record crowd at Breakthrough. This is a tremendous opportunity to highlight what’s happening in biotechnology in South Dakota to a regional and even national audience,” she said.
