Sioux Empire Community Theatre needs ‘immediate financial support’

Feb. 16, 2018

After 15 seasons, the Sioux Empire Community Theatre is making a plea for donations to stay afloat.

“The reality is, community theatre can no longer survive on ticket sales alone,” board president Kimberly Jacobson and producing artistic director Patrick Pope wrote in a post on Facebook.

“The cost of licensing and producing a show cannot be made up in ticket sales and simply raising the cost of a ticket defeats the very purpose of a community-driven theatre program.”

The fundraising campaign seeks $100,000.

The Sioux Empire Community Theatre performs at the Orpheum Theater Center in downtown Sioux Falls.

“In the past 15 years, we have also seen our Stage Adventures family-friendly theatre continue to grow and touch the lives of many young actors. Our summer musical theatre program has grown and become a recognized leader for regional productions,” they wrote.

The board and staff are working on the next season but need financial support to make it happen, they continued. They also are working on the organization’s business model and are open to ideas from others.
