Solidcore’s sleek fitness studio opens on 85th

Oct. 23, 2019

A national fitness studio that focuses on resistance training to build muscle has opened on the south side of Sioux Falls.

Solidcore uses 50-minute sessions of slow, controlled exercises to break down slow-twitch muscle fibers, bringing strength and endurance over time, studio manager Kaycee Reed said. Solidcore’s website describes it as “Pilates intensified.”

Participants do planks, lunges, squats and other motions using machines called “Sweatlanas.” They hold most of the high-intensity, low-impact movements for two to three minutes.

“Your body will start to get to the stage where you break down muscles, and that’s when you start shaking, and it’s really good. It allows you to come back each time with more strength and endurance,” Reed said.

Movements can be modified to fit each participant’s fitness level. First-time Solidcore users can come to class 15 minutes early for an introduction to the program, she said.

Classes are offered daily, mostly in the early morning and early evening at this point, Reed said. There are 36 offerings each week, and more will be added as the studio grows.

Participants can sign up for classes online or by using Solidcore’s app.

She recommends participants come in at least three times a week to see results.

Solidcore’s fees are by the class, starting at $24 for one and with discounts for multiple classes. A founders unlimited annual contract is available for $149 a month.

The studio is in a new retail center on 85th Street, just west of Minnesota Avenue. It’s next to Code Ninjas, which also opened this month.

Solidcore, which is based in Washington, D.C., owns the majority of the 60 locations across the U.S., including Sioux Falls. A couple of sites in the Twin Cities are owned by a franchisee, Reed said. Almost a dozen sites are opening in the next six months.
