Starbucks to add downtown location

June 17, 2019

There’s a new Starbucks coming downtown thanks to a renovation at the Hilton Garden Inn.

The hotel along the Big Sioux River at Eighth Street is turning its indoor pool area into a full-service Starbucks.

The hotel will own the coffee shop, and it will be comparable in size to standalone locations in Sioux Falls, said Paul Hegg, owner of Hegg Cos., which is the Hilton’s operator.

“We feel like it adds another element to the property, with Crave being as successful as it has been,” he said. “It will definitely be a gathering place.”

The pool area is used infrequently “just because the type of clientele we have don’t really use the pool,” Hegg said. “So it’s another place to add activity for our hotel guests and outside guests.”

The new location will include the full menu of beverages and food available at Starbucks.

Customers will be able to enter Starbucks through the hotel or a separate entrance off Eighth Street. While there won’t be a drive-thru, there will be outdoor seating added along the river and next to the splash pad.

“We hope it’s a place where people come to work and gather,” Hegg said. “And having the outdoor patio in the summer, with people coming in and off the bike trail for coffee, it will be a nice relaxing place.”

Construction will start soon, and the plan is to open Starbucks this fall.
