Strawbale Winery owners to retire

Jan. 3, 2022

The owners of Strawbale Winery are retiring, which means changes for the business.

After 15 years of running the business north of Sioux Falls, Don and Susie South announced their retirement through a social media post today.

“Strawbale Winery has been a dream come true for us and a highlight of our lives,” they said. “We know it is because of our amazing staff and our loyal customers that turned into our friends. We would never have met so many people, enjoyed conversations about their lives and been able to share our hard work to those who really appreciate it. We will miss every single person. We have been blessed with so many friends and memories.”

The tasting room closed Jan. 1, and Strawbale will be open Saturdays only in January, so people can purchase items and use their gift cards from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Souths said they will continue to supply liquor stores through their wholesale business while they look for someone to do day-to-day operations.
