The First National Bank in Sioux Falls plans exterior improvements downtown

Oct. 10, 2019

The exterior of the downtown headquarters for The First National Bank in Sioux Falls will be getting a face-lift.

The first phase of improvements to the building at Ninth Street and Phillips Avenue will start Monday and is expected to last eight weeks.

It will involve exterior brick removal on the east, north and west sides of the building.

“We are currently working on a fresh exterior design that will incorporate some of the original brick along with some significant updates,” vice president and director of corporate affairs Bob Baker said.

“We have always loved the look and feel of our existing building and want to keep some of the same original elements going forward with the new design.”

The 135-year-old bank has been located in the downtown building since 1976.

There will be some impacts to downtown during the project, including closure of one eastbound lane on Ninth Street on the north side of the building.

The front entrance to the bank will be closed but will be reopened once the adjacent brick removal is completed. Customers can get to the bank through the First Financial Center entrance, which will be unaffected.
