The Studio 605 brings dance, wellness to all ages

Aug. 8, 2019

Miranda Fox has always been passionate about dance.

The Sioux Falls native danced with local companies throughout her entire childhood, and while other girls dreamed of being princesses or royalty, Fox said she dreamed about opening her own dance studio.

Now, she has done just that.

The Studio 605 offers classes at 2425 S. Shirley Ave. in the River Plaza retail center.

Fox is a certified Zumbini instructor, a program made possible through  Zumba and Baby First that offers caregivers and children from infants through age 4 a chance to dance along to the music — and even make some of their own.

The Studio 605 has big plans for the future already, Fox said. In September, National Wellness Month, the studio will team up with other local businesses in the wellness community to host a vendor fair.

“It’s a good reminder that wellness isn’t always just about fitness,” she said. “It could be essential oils, yoga or anything else.”

The Platinum Dance Studio also will use The Studio 605 space for its classes, which previously have been held in the classroom of a local church.

Together, Platinum Dance and The Studio 605 will host birthday parties, princess camps and other events meant to take the hassle out of hosting for parents.

“Before, we could bring the party to them,” Fox said. “But now that we have this new space, we can host, and parents don’t have to worry about the cleanup afterward.”

Fox said the benefit of having two separate studio rooms is that they will be able to offer adult and children’s classes concurrently.

There are eight staff members at The Studio 605, all of whom have different interests and areas of specialization, which Fox said will help ensure classes are as diverse as possible.

“A lot are classically trained, but one of our girls is really into tap dancing, one is teaching a ballet techniques class, and the instructor we just hired specializes in hip-hop instruction,” she said.

Zumbini packages are sold by session, each of which lasts 10 weeks. The fee for the first child a family enrolls in the class is $125, the second is $63, and the third is free. Monthly packages for other dance classes vary in price based on the instructor.

A class schedule has not been set but will be updated on The Studio 605 website soon, Fox said.

She already has held an open house that included coupons from neighboring businesses, and she anticipates working together in the future too.

“We’re becoming a part of that community right there, but we’re also welcoming the community into our space as well,” she said.
