Training for real estate agents to focus on helping veterans buy homes

From staff reports

Veterans returning to the U.S. from military service can struggle with buying a home. An event Sept. 19 aims to educate real estate agents on how to better serve those clients.

It’s part of the American Warrior Initiative and sponsored by the South Dakota branches of Fairway Independent Mortgage.

Training will be offered to more than 200 real estate agents at Callaway’s. Agents will receive continuing education credits and certification as an American Warrior Real Estate Professional.

“AWI and Fairway are grateful to these veterans for their service to our nation. They are true heroes, and we want to honor them for that service. Through these events, we are hoping to inspire others to do whatever they can to give back to our wounded heroes,” said Louise Thaxton, director of Fairway’s American Warrior Initiative and the military mortgage specialist division.

Speakers include Sean Parnell, who is  a frequent contributor to FOX News, co-founder of the American Warrior Initiative, a decorated Army captain, Airborne Ranger and author of the bestselling book “Outlaw Platoon.”

Following the training, the organizers will honor two local veterans who are in need. One will receive a business grant, and the other will receive money to assist with housing.
