Tre Lounge to return under new ownership

April 6, 2021

Tre Lounge is coming back.

After closing in early 2017 with the retirement of its owners, the building at 601 W. 33rd St. will be returning to a bar and restaurant.

“We are going to be reopening it as Tre Lounge because it has such a good name and people have such good memories,” new owner Michael Hillman said.

Hillman and his family, longtime owners of the Roll’n Pin Cafe & Grille, also were loyal customers of Tre under the previous ownership.

After the restaurant closed, Tre Ministries leased the space for a year until the owner put it on the market. Roll’n Pin began leasing the building for its catering business, and “then it just sat there, and we made an offer, and they accepted, and we were just excited for the opportunity,” Hillman said.

“Sioux Falls has been missing Tre Lounge for a long time, and it didn’t close on bad terms, so what a great opportunity to be able to bring that back to the community.”

The family also will continue to use the kitchen for catering.

“Roll’n Pin was an ideal buyer for the property because they were already leasing the commercial kitchen for their catering business,” said Dale Zomer, senior vice president at NAI Sioux Falls, who brokered the space.

“Because this building currently services their wedding catering business, Roll’n Pin can take their time and expand their business operations with a wine bar and a new restaurant concept.”

There mostly are cosmetic changes to be made – paint, updated decor and finishes – so Hillman said the biggest hurdle to reopening is the availability of supplies.

They’re planning to be open by sometime this summer, though, including an updated patio.

The menu will be focused on sharable dishes and appetizers, such as charcuterie options and bruschetta, but there also will be entrees, including steak. The plan is to serve lunch and dinner.

“It still has that nice comfortable feel it always had, so we’ll keep that feel but add an urban feel so it’s more welcoming to anyone not just if you’re dressed up,” Hilllman said.

“We’ll be bringing a really unique concept, excellent wine, really nice glasses and an awesome price point.”
