When friendship meets fitness, workouts are even more worth it

Working out can be a lot more fun when you’re with a friend.

Just ask Rebecca Thompson and Mahli Garry, who joined GreatLIFE three years ago and go to the gym together three or four times every week.

“I like working as a team, especially with Mahli because she encourages me when I get frustrated,” Thompson said. “And if I don’t feel like doing something or I maybe don’t want to show up on a certain day or don’t feel like working out, I have a good reason, or I’m going to hear about it. I appreciate that friendly but intense support.”

It’s the right fit for Garry too.

“It’s such a blast working out with Rebecca, and if I don’t show up, I have to have a really good reason,” she said. “We hold each other accountable.”

Both women say they appreciate all the options GreatLIFE offers.

“I get really bored really easily, so I feel that one reason I’ve really been able to stick with fitness and working out and going to the gym is that I’m always doing something different,” Thompson said. “Whether it’s Zumba classes or working out with my trainer, or I’m just using the treadmill or trying Body Pump or something, I don’t get bored. And that takes away one of my big excuses.”

They like to try out different classes together and use the same trainer.

“I don’t trust myself to give myself a good-enough workout unless I’m going to a fitness class,” Garry said. “And we’re on our second trainer, and they’ve both been amazing.”

She also appreciates GreatLIFE’s affordability and how she can stop in for a workout at any GreatLIFE gym, including what fits with her work schedule.

“I like the sense of community,” she added. “Because now we have friends that are just our Zumba pals that we’ve hung out with outside of the gym, and that’s also fun.”

Thompson agreed.

“I would recommend GreatLIFE to anybody. I really love the community here. I love all the options. The people are amazing. I have nothing but good, and it’s kind of hard to list all of the good.”
