New food truck features Midwest fare, grilled items

One of the newest food trucks in Sioux Falls features a backyard grill on the “porch.”

Fergie’s Midwest Dineout offers grilled hamburgers, hot dogs and brats, and a rotating selection of pulled pork sandwiches, walking tacos and other entrees.

Jessica and Casey Rasmussen started planning their venture last year, buying a new trailer, having it outfitted and then rebuilt to their satisfaction. The business is a full-time venture for them. Jessica has worked in restaurants and on food trucks, and Casey was a landscaper.

“This was my dream. He got roped in,” Rasmussen said.

The couple plan to operate the trailer as late in the year as they can in Sioux Falls and then “take it on the road” for the winter months, heading to possibly Texas or Utah, she said.

They’re filling their days parking for lunch outside businesses across town and going to public and private events. Some of the regular spots have been at Dick’s Vacuum on East 10th Street and outside Raven Industries’ locations in the industrial area south of the airport. Eventually, Fergie’s will make it downtown on the weekends to serve the late-night bar crowd. They post locations on their Facebook page, Fergie’s Food Trailer.

Rasmussen said they plan to keep changing up the menu, adding in wraps and frozen fruit with yogurt for summer. Every entree comes with a choice of two sides with rotating choices of cheesy potatoes, cheesy green beans, baked beans or corn.

When they’re invited to park outside a business, Rasmussen said she’ll set a menu and then send it out in advance.

“We can go to just about any event and cook just about anything,” she said.
