Restaurant Roundup: Crave construction, La Fiesta peek, sold out chicken sandwiches

Sept. 8, 2022

There will be construction to deal with for the next two months at Crave American Kitchen & Sushi Bar inside the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Sioux Falls.

The bar is being replaced, but it likely will look like more is happening because of the screening being put up. Bar service will be handled from the outside bar while weather allows, and then there will be temporary bars set up in the restaurant.

The Downtown Pork Showdown goes through the end of the month. Rate each of the 19 competing dishes on a variety of categories within the DTSF Digital Passport App including:

  • Best Use of Pork
  • Flavor
  • Tenderness
  • Presentation
  • Customer Service

Been missing Strawbale Winery this summer? Good news: The winery in Renner will be open Sept. 24 from 12 to 4 p.m. There will be local vendors and more information to be announced.

The Dive, which operates out of The Gaslight Saloon, has created a special for college students. Get one beef or chicken slider with a half-pound of fries for $5 with a college I.D. All ages are welcome in the bar on West 12th Street. Kitchen hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

La Plaza Fiesta shared this hint of what’s to come as it wraps up construction at 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue. No opening date has been set yet, but the owners said they will announce it as soon as the plans come together. “We are so excited to come to Sioux Falls and can’t wait to share with you everything we have been working on!” they said.

The Saucy Boyz at Remedy Brewing Company have some new menu additions:

The Nashville Smashville, which consists of house smoked Nashville hot pork belly burnt ends, Dakota Honey BBQ sauce, garlic mayo, cabbage, pickles, topped with Nashville hot cheese curds on all a Breadsmith dill bogie, served with a side of baked beans
“Look what you did you little jerk” chicken sandwich, which is house-smoked shredded chicken marinated with a Caribbean jerk seasoning on a Breadsmith bun with slaw, fried onions, and green onion.
Sasquash Flatbread, a house-smoked butternut squash puree, shallot, three cheese blend, goat cheese, arugula, white balsamic, pepita seed.
Remedy Steakhouse Sandwich, with house-smoked sirloin, bell pepper, onion, tangy steak sauce, provolone, horseradish fried onion, served on a hoagie.

Smoked brisket is on the menu for a limited time at Pita Pit. Get it on a pita sandwich or as a salad.

Both come with shredded lettuce, grilled flame-roasted corn, grilled onions, tomatoes, cilantro and barbecue sauce. The star, of course, is the brisket, which is U.S. ranch-raised beef that has been naturally hardwood smoked with no artificial liquid smoke, MSG, allergens or preservatives.

Wing Stop added more flavors for its chicken sandwich and it sold out in record time. The sandwich now comes in all 12 wing sauce flavors: everything from atomic and mango habanero to spicy Korean and lemon pepper.

The entire U.S. supply sold out in days, and what was supposed to last four weeks was gone in six days. The restaurant is getting more in stock and urges diners to sign up digitally to be alerted of restock.
