Restaurant Roundup: Reopened taproom, ‘boomerang’ menu, new lunch specials

March 23, 2023

Today marks the spring reawakening of Remedy at 611, which went into a winter hibernation. The old-school taproom in Remedy Brewing Co.’s production facility at 611 N. West Ave. is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Thursdays, 4 to midnight Fridays and noon to midnight Saturdays. Sunday hours likely will return with warmer weather. The taproom is starting off the season with four Remedy beers: Queen Bee, Brew ‘N Gold, Remedy IPA and SourCopter. Food offerings include 8-inch pizzas in cheese, pepperoni or four-meat options. And there’s a new menu item: a pound of spicy popcorn chicken with a side of ranch. Get it with a pitcher of beer for $20. The taproom offers pool tables, dart boards, pinball machines, TVs and a jukebox, all in a retro setting.

Outback Steakhouse is celebrating 35 years with a limited-time “boomerang” menu of original Aussie favorites. The Walkabout Soup, a creamy onion soup, is back. There’s a wedge salad and Aussie Twisted Ribs. Entrees include Alice Springs Sirloin and Toowoomba Pasta with grilled shrimp, scallions and mushrooms. For dessert, Cinnamon Oblivion has returned, along with Sydney’s Sinful Sundae. Two original cocktails that are still on the menu are being offered for $7: The Wallaby Darned and Sauza Gold Coast ’Rita. The menu is available through Sunday, and there’s free delivery through Monday.

Looking for a fast, cheap lunch? Let It Fly has a new Chef Express Lunch that’s served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays for $8. Get a half-sandwich with a cup of soup or salad, or pick two chicken or beef tacos with chips and queso. Sandwich choices are grilled cheese, avocado toast, club BLT, chicken, Reuben, French dip and Philly. For the salad, pick house or Caesar. Choose chili or the soup of the day.

The new Bill of Fare at The Attic Bar & Grill features four new items and a new dessert from The Cake Lady. New Tamale Cakes are seared and served with cilantro jalapeno creme, sliced avocado and pico de gallo. A colorful Steak and Potsticker Stir-Fry has sliced steak, shiitake potsticker, red onion, carrots, snap peas and bell peppers in a honey sesame sauce, served with white rice. There’s also pan-roasted walleye with a spring pea truffle sauce and fingerling potatoes, and a shrimp po’boy. The new Just Desserts is caramel pecan cheesecake and carrot cake with a bourbon cream cheese frosting.

Sickies Garage has a new selection of flatbreads for a limited time. Flavors include Chicken Bacon Ranch, Grilled Chicken Caesar, Hot Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken.

Safari Bar & Grill in Renner has added several items to the menu. Santa Fe Egg Rolls are back by popular demand, the restaurant said. There are housemade loaded potato skins, a black bean burger for a vegetarian option, hamburger steak with grilled onions and mushrooms, and chicken basil pesto fettucine. Cauliflower crust is an option now on all the made-to-order pizzas.

Here are a couple of happy hour specials that don’t have anything to do with alcohol. Pizza Cheeks is offering $1 off a slice from 4 to 8 p.m. daily. You can pair that with a cocktail, beer or wine from The Hello Hi in the front of the building.

At the new Sub Zero Desserts downtown, get half-priced Italian sodas from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. They come in any of the shaved ice flavors that the shop serves.

Sub Zero Desserts is also the newest place to find Burkett’s Freeze Dried Treats. The shop stocks a variety of candy.

Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe is having a BOGO deal on all its wraps through Sunday. Mention the offer at the register, or order online with the code BOGOWRAP.

Changes in hours, service

MacKenzie River Pizza, Grill & Pub reopened Monday after a monthlong renovation project. The downtown restaurant replaced flooring in the kitchen and behind the bar and uppated the bathrooms.
